All about Lip Stain

What is Lip Stain?

A lip stain is generally a lip colour product which ‘stains’ the lips temporarily so that the colour does not fade and therefore lasts longer.

It can come in a wide variety of shades and has many different applications.

We’ve been producing lip stains for over 25 years and have trialled many different types along the way. Hopefully we can share some of that knowledge with you and answer any questions you may have.

We’ll update the article for you as new information is available and we’ll try to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Why use Lip Stain?

Great for anybody who loves lip colour but is frustrated by having to reapply over and over again all day. Lip stain can also be very economic as all day colour, and one application as a base coat makes your lipstick last much longer!

We speak to customers who love lip stains for all kinds of reasons – it can be because of a demanding work schedule in sales or customer facing areas or even because of sports like swimming where conventional makeup is not up to the task. If you are somebody who does not like the idea of finding yourself ‘naked’ during the day then you will like the reassurance of the stain.

Lip Stain compared to traditional Lipstick

You will find that to get real staying power, lip stains are the one to go for. They are mostly waterproof, smudge proof and kiss proof if you choose the right one – our brands will last for over 8 hours on your lips and will not mark a teacup.

Lip stains can also be used as a base for your favourite lipstick colour, which will help retain the colour and will provide a great backup in between applications.

If you go for one of our Magic Lips or Lipstains Gold then you’ll get a moisturising lipstick with our exclusive formulation of lip stain behind it, which will keep moisturising, protecting and colouring your lips all day.

We feel that lip stains are a low maintenance, hassle free, way of looking great all day.

What different types of Lip Stain are available?

The main types that you’ll see around:

Lipstick format (our preferred)

*New Lipgloss format – our brand new concept called Magic Lips Lipshine – read all about it here

2 Step process – a dye and a gloss

Felt Dye – think permanent marker!

Lip balm – and as a kitsch cheek stain. The problem with a the lip balm is where you constantly have to reapply to keep your lips moist – this means the colour will get stronger and stronger throughout the day!

We offer two different ranges with their own unique benefits. If you are looking for a lip stain that offers all day colour and beautiful lips then you can choose from either.

Lipstains Gold

Magic Lips Lip Stain

During the Second World War, with a backdrop of scarce resources, and no drop in demand for lip colour from ladies of the day, one clever chemist developed an innovative solution that would stand the test of time. This brilliant young chemist managed to solve the problem of constantly reapplying lipstick by creating a new alternative to lipstick pigment. Loved by the gentry and celebrities of the time, this formula was re-launched in the early 90’s to widespread acclaim.

Lipstains Gold is the original favourite with super rich conditioning ingredients, with amazing staying power and a diverse colour range to choose from. This lipstick is a fantastic formulation with its own distinctive look that has been popular for decades throughout the UK and worldwide.

Another great thing about Lipstains Gold is that you can choose from a range of superb shades – just like your normal favourite lipstick! This is the all-in-one all day lipstick!

Things to watch out for:

When looking for Lip Stain:

If you find Lip Stain in a pot:

Not portable because you need an applicator – or you’ll stain your fingertips.

Not hygienic if you have to dip your finger in!

If you find a double ended Lip Stain:

These formulations tend to be very drying on the lips

They can stay for a long time but are not comfortable.

The lip gloss part may need to be reapplied.

Why do we say that our format is better than anyone else?

Lipstick convenience – carry in your handbag. Moisturises and conditions your lips. You won’t find us telling you to exfoliate your lips before “treatment”. Our brands are all about tried and tested performance and quality using the finest ingredients.

To remove Lip Stain:

Can I remove once I’ve put on my lip stain?

If you want to remove your lip stain fast then wipe clear with lemon juice or try our cleansing and moisturising Crowe’s Cremine.
